Toliet Training The Autistic Child
|

|
According to statistics, Autism is a disorder that affects so many people that more than likely, we know somebody whose life has been changed in some way or another by it. Although we know that it affects the individuals that have autism, far too few people understand that it also affects anybody else that is in their immediate circle. Family members are often left to care for the autistic child, regardless of the fact that they have little or no training. Doctors are unaware of any treatment that is going to take care of the problem although they may be able to alleviate a symptom or two through giving us a coping mechanism.
There are a lot of different things that a person who is dealing with autism has to go through. Something that we may not consider if we have not gone through a personally is the fact that it can be difficult to handle Autism toilet training. The fact of the matter is that individuals with autism often have a difficult time in learning how to go to the bathroom on the toilet and each of them is going to react differently to the specific training that we are going to give them. One of the main reasons why it is so difficult is because an autistic child will not usually react the same in a social way as a child without the disorder. Typically, a child will begin to use the bathroom in order to please its parents but an autistic child may not feel a need to do this. This can make it extremely difficult to take care of Autism toilet training.
More than likely, you are going to have to have a structured schedule in order for the Autism toilet training to take place. It isn't necessarily a matter of you putting the child on the toilet at regular intervals, it is a matter of you seeing how long your child is dry on a consistent basis. Make yourself a chart and begin checking the child on an hourly schedule to see whether he has gone to the bathroom or not during that time. It may take some time on your part to discover whether the child is ready for Autism toilet training and you might be surprised to learn that the child is not yet ready to proceed.
The main thing is that Autism toilet training is going to take persistence and patience on your part in order for you to see good results.
